Who is Julie?

Julie is the mother of two grown children and the grandmother of Zoe (age 8) and Stefan (age 5). Her passion for the physical and emotional well being of women began early in her life with her own experiences of pregnancy, birth, and mothering.

Always deeply interested in women's lives and women's issues, she earned her M.A. in psychology in 1988 with an emphasis in Women's Studies. She subsequently created and taught a class on Mothers and Daughters at Sonoma State University. While teaching the Mother-Daughter class she was introduced to waterbirth by a local midwife. The concept of giving birth in water amazed and intrigued her.

After becoming certified in holistic nutrition in 1998, Julie began to turn her full attention to the care and support of women and their families through the childbearing years. She became a certified doula in 2001, and since that time has been providing services to families in the Eugene/Springfield area. She offers prenatal and post-partum care and support through labor and delivery, at home, hospital, or birth center. She is experienced with and enthusiastically supportive of water birth. Julie has a special interest in the psychological/emotional dimensions of pregnancy, birth, and motherhood for both mother and father, and their newborn babies.
